Integral Yoga® Therapy FAQ

How long is the Integral Yoga Therapy Certification Program?

The program is an 800-hour, module-based training program. You can choose a schedule that best works for you, and all 800 hours must be completed within five years.

Where will I attend classes?

Depending on where you live, you can choose your “Home Center” from Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco, Integral Yoga Institute of New York or Satchidananda Ashram–-Yogaville, near Charlottesville, Virginia. Your “Home Center” is where you submit your application and where you work with your mentor, peer cohort group, and local Center Manager on administrative items. However, you are welcome to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh) modules at other locations.

Are there any prerequisites?

Yes, you must have successfully completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and have at least one year of Yoga teaching experience. Additionally, you must have at least one year of your own personal Yoga practice. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

What if I have already taken one of the trainings that is part of the IYTh Program?

If you have already taken one of the core module trainings of the IYTh Program, you can apply for a Previous Education Credit to have that training applied toward your certification. The instructor and syllabus must be the same, and you must have successfully completed the course within five years prior to enrollment in the IYTh Program. Please indicate on your application if you are interested in having a previous training applied or contact your local Center Manager for more information.

Who are the instructors?

IYTh is taught by senior Integral Yoga teachers and experts in their fields. View Faculty Members

Will I have a chance to work with other Yoga therapists and gain practical experience before graduating?

Yes! A very important part of the IYTh Program is Mentoring and Practicum. Approximately 200 of the 800 training hours are dedicated to supervised client contact. You have the opportunity to offer Yoga therapy services to individuals and small groups while receiving feedback from your peers and Program Mentor. Your Home Center collaboratively pairs you with an ideal Mentor who is a C-IAYT Yoga Therapist in the Integral Yoga organization.

What is a Peer Cohort?

Peer Cohorts are groups of students in the IYTh track, formed to create a structure of support and inspiration through the training. Peer Cohorts meet monthly, providing an opportunity for students to share their studies and work together on practical applications of Yoga therapy. In addition, IYTh faculty schedules general focus themes related to training and practicum issues.
Cohorts start on: July 15th for applications received by July 1st and Feb 15 for applications received by February 1st.

What is C-IAYT?

C-IAYT is the credential given people who have successfully completed a Yoga Therapy Program accredited by the International Association of Yoga Therapists or IAYT. As stated on the IAYT website, “IAYT’s certification for Yoga therapists (C-IAYT) is built on competency-based educational standards and a rigorous accreditation process for training programs. C-IAYTs agree to follow a defined scope of practice and a code of professional ethics.” Learn more at www.iayt.org.

What kind of certificate will I get upon completing the program?

Upon successfully completing the 800-hr program, you are awarded C-IAYT recognition and will be recognized as C-IAYT. If a graduate of the 800-hour Program wishes to become a certified Integral Yoga Therapist and receive the IYTh credential, they must complete an additional Elective Course in a specialty area of their choosing from a selected list of approved trainings.
